Transport your taste buds
The capital of Belgium is one of the most international cities in the world and multicultural melting pot. The city is an interesting mixture of French and Dutch influences, seen in both the diverse architecture and the bilingual street signs. Furthermore, being home to many institutions of the European Union, it’s no wonder that Brussels is sometimes referred to as the „capital of Europe“.
Start licking your lips! Food-lovers travelling to Brussels are in for a treat and you should probably head elsewhere if you’re on a diet. Belgium is famous for its chocolate, beer, and waffles, but another staple of the mouth-watering Belgian cuisine is the simple but classic potato, by which we mean the frites or Belgian fries. Last but most definitely not least is the one thing everyone travelling to Brussels must try.
We‘re of course talking about the mussels from Brussels, cooked in white wine and served with fries. We recommend enjoying the moules-frites (mussels & fries) in the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Place - the central square and heart of Brussels, and one of the most stunning squares in Europe.
A fine day out
There‘s something for everyone in Brussels. Great food, a vibrant nightlife, shopping, art, culture & of course the famous Manneken Pis, a tiny bronze statue that depicts a urinating naked boy.
Explore and discover. The buzzing city center is popular with travellers, and there‘s plenty to see, eat & drink. We also recommend venturing out beyond the city center and exploring the surrounding city districts and neighborhoods, or make a day of it, hop on a train and visit neighbouring cities like Ghent, Bruges or Antwerpen.
Down to shop? Then Brussels has you covered. On Rue Neuve you‘ll find all the major chain stores, and those looking for designer goods should head to Avenue Louise. Then there‘s the option of popping into one of the shopping arcades, which are roof covered shopping streets, such as Galeries Royales St. Hubert, with boutiques, cafés, and restaurants.
We suggest a stroll through the Jeu De Balle flea market in the Marolles district, where you‘ll find everything from second-hand furniture to antique paintings. Just remember that the early bird catches the worm and the same goes for those looking to find unique treasures at the market. The streets leading up from the market to the beautiful Sablon square are lined with quaint antique stores, chockfull of funky finds and gems from the past.
